CASE UPDATES

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. has charged Ajiee Anderson (DOB: 2-8-75) with second-degree assault (F4) in connection with an altercation in the Mile High Stadium parking lot after a Broncos game on November 23, 2003.  The charge alleges that Anderson, from Westminster, was involved in an altercation with another man from Littleton and bit off the tip of the victim’s middle right finger.  The two men were reportedly rooting for different teams.  Anderson is scheduled to appear in Denver County Court, 12T, on December 24, 2003 at 9:00 a.m. to be formally advised of the charge.  He remains free on $5000 bond.

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. has charged George Spence (DOB: 1-14-60) and his step-daughter Paula Flynn (DOB: 5-24-79) with several drug charges in connection with the discovery of nearly 200 pounds of Khat, a Schedule I substance, at DIA on December 6, 2003.  Spence and Flynn, who are from Great Britain, are charged with conspiracy to distribute (F3), possession with intent to distribute (F3), and special offender importation (F2) of the African plant also known as Cathinone.  The charges allege that they were trying to pass through DIA with the drugs on their way to Seattle.  Customs officials at the airport found the Khat, which had been packed in several pieces of luggage in lieu of clothing.  They’ll both appear tomorrow, December 12, 2003, in Denver County Court, 12T, at 9:00 a.m. for advisement.

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. has charged Alejandro Cardenas (DOB: 5-10-83) with five counts of first-degree assault to a peace officer (F3) in connection with a drive-by shooting on December 5, 2003.  The charges allege that five Denver police officers were shot at as they were investigating an assault call at 44th Avenue and Elati Street.  No one was hit by the gunfire, which had come from the passenger side of a vehicle driving by.  The vehicle was later stopped at 38th Avenue and Brighton Boulevard where an arrest was made.  Cardenas is set to appear tomorrow, December 12, 2003, in Denver County Court, 12T, at 9:00 a.m. for advisement.
