CHARGES FILED AGAINST LOCAL DOCTOR
**
(**The defendant was found not guilty
of the charges at trial in November 2002.)
Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. filed formal charges today
against a doctor working at St. Joseph Hospital in connection with
allegations of unlawful sexual contact.
Colin Kao (DOB: 12-6-72) is charged with five counts of unlawful sexual
contact (F4) and five counts of unprofessional conduct (M2), a violation
of the Colorado Medical Practice Act. The charges involve four different
female victims.
The case came to light September 24, 2001 when several patients at St.
Joseph Hospital made allegations that they had been victims of sexual
contact. Denver police responded and developed information leading to the
arrest of Kao on September 25, 2001. Kao had been working at the hospital
for approximately three months. Prior to that he worked at Des Moines
General Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa which is now called Metropolitan
Medical Center.
Kao is scheduled to appear in Denver County Court, room 12T, to be
formally advised of the charges against him on Tuesday, October 9, 2001 at
9:00 a.m. He has been released from jail on $10,000 bond.
