April 13, 2001

Contact: Lynn Kimbrough, 720-913-9025

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. filed formal charges today in connection with the 1999 murder of Stephanie Ashley. Ashley's body was found in the 4800 block alley between St. Paul and Milwaukee Streets on the morning of July 23, 1999.

37-year-old Ned Pace, Jr. (DOB:4-12-64) is charged with first degree murder (F1), first degree murder during a sexual assault (F1), and sexual assault (F3).

Pace was arrested by the Denver Police Department last week when further investigation linked Pace to the victim. Pace is also a suspect in another 1999 murder and additional charges may be filed later.

He is currently in custody in the Denver County Jail.
