CHARGES FILED IN CARJACKING CASE
February 6, 2001

Contact: Lynn Kimbrough, 720-913-9025

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. has filed charges today in connection with the robbery and kidnapping of a woman and her two children last month. The incident occurred in the 2100 block of West 30th Avenue at about 8:30 a.m., January 14, 2001. The victim was forced out of her vehicle at knifepoint, and a man drove away with the victim's two children still in the vehicle. The vehicle later crashed into a tree in the 3700 block of Quivas Street and the suspect fled the scene. The children were both injured.

Dony Salazar (DOB: 9-17-82) is charged with three counts of kidnapping (F2 and F3), aggravated robbery (F3), three counts of first degree aggravated motor vehicle theft (F4), two counts of vehicular assault (F5), and menacing (F5).

Salazar remains at large, and a warrant has been issued for his arrest. The issuance of an at-large warrant enables any law enforcement agency in the country to arrest Salazar, and it places his name on the National Crime Information Computer.

*The filing of a criminal charge is merely a formal accusation that an individual(s) committed a crime(s) under Colorado laws. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. See Colo. RPC 3.6
