Charges have been filed today in three cases of note:
Anthony Carcel (DOB: 6-21-65) is charged with first degree
murder (F1) in connection with the death of 26-year-old Deneane Gray.
Gray's body was found November 1, 2001 in an apartment she shared with
Carcel. She had not been seen since October 21, 2001. Carcel was arrested
on November 2, 2001 after a brief foot chase with Denver Police officers
and is being held in the Denver County Jail without bond.
Karen Kelly (DOB: 10-24-67) and Josh Plank (DOB: 5-9-83) are
charge with theft (F4) in connection with a stolen Mobrella
cockatoo. The owner, a man from California, had brought several birds to a
bird show at the Lakeside Mall on November 4, 2001. The cockatoo, valued
at $2,000, was stolen from his truck sometime that night outside his motel
room at I-70 and Federal Boulevard. Denver police later arrested a vendor
from the bird show and an employee of the victim. The bird was returned to
the owner.
Shawn Ragland (DOB: 4-30-79) is charged with two counts of aggravated
robbery (F3) in connection with the robbery of an adult video store
and a gas station on September 16, 2001. Ragland, dubbed the "Sorry
Phone Bandit," is already facing five other aggravated robbery
charges in a series of similar cases this fall.
