Case Update
November 7, 2001

Charges were filed today in two cases of note:

Alejandro Morales (DOB: 2-24-77) is charged with two counts of vehicular homicide (F3 and F4), two counts of vehicular assault (F4 and F5), third degree assault (M1), two counts of DUI (M), reckless driving and red light violation in connection with a fatal accident that happened November 1, 2001 at 38th Avenue and Zuni Street. The charges allege that Morales was driving a car westbound on 38th Avenue when it went through a red light at Zuni, collided with another vehicle, then hit a police car. A passenger in the suspect's vehicle died of injuries sustained in the accident. The driver of the first vehicle hit was thrown 68 feet from the point of impact and was hospitalized. The officer in the police vehicle also suffered minor injuries. Morales remains in custody in the Denver County Jail. Bond has been set at $250,000.

In an unrelated case, Gaylin Sierra (DOB: 1-29-74) is charged with sexual assault on an at-risk adult (F2) and theft (F4) in connection with an assault on a 58-year-old Denver woman. The woman, who is hearing-impaired, was in her Denver home when a male acquaintance appeared at the door and asked to use the bathroom. The charges allege that he stole money from her purse and assaulted her when she confronted him about the theft. Sierra remains in custody in the Denver County Jail. Bond has been set at $100,000
