Contact: Lynn Kimbrough, 720-913-9025

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter Jr. filed formal charges today in connection with the murder of Lewis Morris (DOB: 4-18-79) last Saturday night, February 2, 2002.

20-year-old Bryson Knight (DOB: 1-16-82) is charged with first degree murder (F1).

Denver police responded to the 21000 block of East 45th Avenue on February 2, 2002 on a report of a shooting.  They found the victim lying in the doorway of a home with a gunshot wound to his neck.  He was taken to University Hospital but did not survive.

Police developed information about an altercation between the victim and another man and later identified Knight as the suspect in the murder.  Further investigation located Knight in Oklahoma where he is currently in the custody of the Logan County (OK) Sheriff's Department pending extradition.

*The filing of a criminal charge is merely a formal accusation that an individual(s) committed a crime(s) under Colorado laws. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. See Colo. RPC 3.6
