REVIEW OF COUNCIL REVENUE FUND COMPLETE

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. has completed a review of a special revenue fund utilized by Denver City Council members and has concluded there is no merit to opening a criminal investigation.

In a letter to Denver Council President Joyce Foster, Ritter outlined the review and the basis of his conclusion.  He also shared his concern about the lack of rules and limits regarding the use of the special revenue fund.

He suggested that Denver City Council consider eliminating the fund altogether and returning most if not all unspent money to the general fund.  He recommended that if Council does not eliminate the fund, Council should restrict the use of the fund and provide clear and specific guidelines to council members on the types of expenditures permitted.
