MAN CHARGED IN APARTMENT FIRE, ATTEMPTED ASSAULT

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. filed multiple charges today against a man accused of setting a fire in an acquaintance’s apartment and then trying to run her over with a car.

Daumier McAfee (DOB: 5-24-78) is charged with first-degree arson (F3), two counts of second-degree arson (F4), and one count each of attempted first-degree assault (F4) and menacing (F5). The charges allege that on July 20, 2003, the defendant set the victim’s apartment on fire after an argument and then fled. A short time later, the charges further allege, McAfee confronted the victim, put his hand on a gun in his waistband, and then got into his car and attempted to run her over. Denver Police were called, SWAT negotiators talked McAfee out of his apartment, and he was taken into custody.

He has been released from the Denver County Jail on $50,000 bond, and is scheduled to appear in Denver County Court, room 12T, on Wednesday, August 6, 2003 at 9 a.m. to be advised of the charges.
