JUVENILE SENTENCED IN TEEN’S DEATH
A
14-year-old teenager has been sentenced to the Division of
Youth Corrections for the shooting death of another Denver
teenager on July 30th, 2003.
15-year-old Samuel Burks, Jr. died at Denver Health Medical
Center the next day.
Eric Coleman
(DOB: 7-27-03), who was charged as a juvenile, was sentenced
to two years in the Division of Youth Corrections with 6 of
months mandatory parole. His parents took responsibility
for $11,450.29 in restitution and the state has reserved its
right to restitution for the victim’s headstone and on-going
therapy for the victim’s family.
Coleman pleaded guilty in August to reckless manslaughter.
Coleman was showing off a handgun in his front yard when the
victim was accidentally shot in the stomach.
