Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. has filed a formal charge today in connection with the New Year's Day murder of 36-year-old Nancy Sonnenfeld (DOB: 3-1-65).

39-year-old Kurt Sonnenfeld (DOB 12-18-62) is formally charged with first degree murder after deliberation (F1).

On January 1, 2002 at about 1:40 a.m., the Denver Police Department received a 911 call from the Sonnenfeld residence in the Congress Park neighborhood. The victim was found in a bedroom with a gunshot wound to the back of her head. She was taken to Denver Health Medical Center but died several hours later.

Sonnenfeld remains in the Denver County Jail where he has been held without bond since his arrest January 1, 2002. His next court appearance is tentatively scheduled for Thursday January 10, 2002 at 8:30 a.m. in Denver County Court, room 12T, to be formally advised of the charge against him.
