FOSTER MOM SENTENCED
A woman originally scheduled
for trial this week for child abuse has averted trial and is
preparing to report to jail.
Yolanda Royal
(DOB: 7-17-65) was sentenced
last Tuesday, November 18, 2003, on her earlier guilty plea to
child abuse (M1). Royal was sentenced to one year of
probation, which includes a mental health evaluation, 180 days
in jail (of which 106 were suspended), 60 days of electronic
home monitoring and 150 hours of community service. She has
been ordered to begin serving her jail sentence on December 8,
2003.
Royal was charged last summer
in connection with the abuse of a 15-year-old developmentally
disabled girl for whom she was the foster parent. On June 11,
2003, the girl was found in a closet at Royal’s residence by a
social worker conducting a scheduled visit.
