NEW CHARGES FILED AGAINST CORRECTIONS OFFICER

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. filed formal charges today against a state corrections officer in connection with new allegations of sexual assault.

Daniel Gallegos (DOB: 8-9-73) is charged with sexual assault using force (F3) and sexual conduct in a penal institution (F5).

The charges allege that Gallegos sexually assaulted a female inmate at the Denver Women’s Correctional Facility in October and November 2002 while he worked there as a corrections officer.  Gallegos is already facing similar charges in an earlier case that is set for preliminary hearing March 27, 2003.

Investigators with the Department of Corrections have been investigating the separate cases since they first learned of the allegations.  Their findings were then forwarded to the Denver Police Department who arrested Gallegos and filed the case with the Denver District Attorney’s Office.
