'LINGERIE RAPIST' PLEADS GUILTY

James Harry Gipson (DOB: 11-19-73) pleaded guilty late yesterday in connection with a series of sexual assaults that occurred two years ago.

Gipson pleaded guilty in Denver District Court to four counts of sexual assault (F4), four counts of first degree kidnapping (F2), one count of first degree burglary (F3), and additional sentencing aggravator counts.  He will face a minimum of 50 years in prison when he is sentenced on December 6, 2002.

The kidnappings and assaults occurred in August and September of 2000 when Gipson’s girlfriend, Melissa Todd, lured women from the 16th Street Mall by representing herself as being connected with Victoria’s Secret and claiming she would accompany them to a lingerie party.  Instead, she took them to another location where they were assaulted by Gipson.

Gipson and Todd were originally charged with more than 100 counts each in connection with the series of assaults and attempted assaults.  Todd pleaded guilty earlier this year to four counts of second degree kidnapping and five counts of attempted sexual assault.
