HAGOS CONVICTED OF MURDER

26-year-old Abraham Hagos (DOB: 6-25-75) was found guilty in Denver District Court today of first degree murder, attempted first degree murder, conspiracy and retaliation against a witness in connection with the 1998 murder of 20-year-old Jimmie Roberts of Lakewood.

Roberts was a witness in a pending drug case against Hagos in Jefferson County when he was murdered November 7, 1998.  Just days earlier, on November 4, 1998, Roberts was the target of an attempted murder at his home in Lakewood.  Testimony during the trial showed that Hagos wanted Roberts killed to keep him from testifying in the drug case and that he was willing to pay others to do it.

The case now moves into the sentencing phase in which a three-judge panel will be appointed to determine whether or not to impose a death penalty.  There is no specific date set for this phase yet.
