TEEN CHARGED
AS AN ADULT IN FATAL CRASH
Denver District
Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. has filed formal charges in connection
with a fatal crash that occurred last week in which a University
of Denver music student was killed.
17-year-old
Ronnie Hernandez (DOB: 8-5-85) is charged as an adult with
vehicular eluding resulting in death (F3), leaving the
scene of an accident resulting in death (F4), vehicular
homicide (F4) and first-degree aggravated motor vehicle
theft (F3) in connection with the crash.
The charges allege
that on February 20, 2003, Hernandez caused a fatal car crash at
Asbury and High Streets in Denver that killed 19-year-old Qi
Zhang. The charges also allege that Hernandez was driving a
vehicle that he had stolen a week earlier. A 17-year-old
passenger with Hernandez was taken into custody at the time but
has been released and is not being charged.
Hernandez, who
has been held at the Gilliam Youth Detention facility, will
now be transferred to the Denver County Jail.
