SON CHARGED IN THANKSGIVING ASSAULT ON MOM

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. has formally charged a Denver man in connection with the attempted murder of his 65-year-old mother last week.

Ronald Herrera (DOB: 8-15-55) is charged with attempted first-degree murder (F2) and attempted first-degree assault (F3).

The charges allege that Herrera had been drinking at his mother’s home in the 1900 block of Arapahoe Street on Thanksgiving Day when she called the police to have him removed.  The charges further allege that he got angry, grabbed his mother, and tried to throw her from a fourth-floor balcony.  When Denver police officers arrived, they found the woman hanging over the edge of the balcony and were able to pull her to safety.

Herrera will appear in Denver County Court, room 12T, on Wednesday, December 3, 2003 at 9:00 a.m. to be advised of the charges.  He remains in custody in the Denver County Jail.  His bond was set at $50,000.
