Grand Jury indictment handed down in multiple murder case
A Denver Grand Jury
has returned a 17-count indictment against a man accused of
murdering four people last August.
Edward Herrera
(DOB: 8-2-52) is charged by indictment with four counts of
first-degree murder after deliberation (F1), four counts of
first-degree felony murder (F1), two counts of
attempted first-degree murder (F2), two counts of
first-degree assault (F3), aggravated robbery (F3),
attempted robbery (F5), conspiracy to commit robbery
(F5), and two crime of violence counts.
The investigation
into the murders of Rose Amador, Blanca Dueñas-Balbuena, Sally
Mendoza and Bob Pacheco is on-going. Because the grand jury has
subpoena powers that police and prosecutors do not have, it was
appropriate to refer this investigation to the grand jury, where
it continues.
Herrera was
scheduled to appear in Denver County Court tomorrow for a
preliminary hearing on similar charges that were filed August
14, 2003; however, charges by indictment are filed directly into
Denver District Court, eliminating a preliminary
hearing. He is scheduled to appear tomorrow, December 4, 2003,
for a hearing on his advisement in Denver District Court,
division 8, at 8:30 a.m.
Herrera’s son,
co-defendant Michael Anthony Sandoval, is still scheduled to
appear in Denver County Court on December 19, 2003 for a
preliminary hearing.
