WORKER CHARGED WITH EMBEZZLEMENT

 

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. has formally charged a former Denver Public Works employee in connection with more than $13,000 missing from the Parking Cashier’s Office.

 

Deborah M. Hewitt (DOB: 4-23-69) is charged with theft (F4), 12 counts of embezzlement of public property (F5), and 7 counts of unauthorized use of a financial transaction device (F5).

 

The charges allege that between July 2001 and March 2002 Hewitt received cash from people paying parking fines and used it for personal gain.  The charges also allege that she made unauthorized transactions on several credit card accounts belonging to people who had used their credit card to pay parking fines.

 

Hewitt was formally charged last Wednesday, July 3, 2002.  She was arrested today, July 10, 2002 and is scheduled for a first advisement tomorrow, July 11, 2002 in Denver County Court, room 12T, at 10:00 a.m.
