CORRECTIONS OFFICER CHARGED WITH ASSAULT

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. has charged a Department of Corrections Officer in connection with an assault on an inmate at the Denver Receiving and Diagnostic Center.  The investigation was conducted by the Department of Corrections and was then turned over to the Denver DA’s Office.

Mark Jester (DOB: 6-25-54) is charged with second-degree assault (F4).

Jester was walking with an inmate on October 31, 2003 at the Denver DOC complex.  The charges allege that he intentionally stepped on the inmate’s leg irons and then threw him to the ground.  The inmate suffered a broken leg.

Jester was released on $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Denver County Court on December 16, 2003 to be formally advised of the charge.
