CHARGES FILED IN SEXUAL ASSAULT CASE

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. filed formal charges today against a man accused of sexually assaulting a teenage girl that he knew through his church nearly 10 years ago.

Peter Kim (DOB: 10-10-67) is charged with sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust (F4).

The charges allege that Kim sexually abused a teenage girl in 1993, while he was a youth leader at Cherry Creek Presbyterian Church in Englewood.  The allegation came to light late last fall, and Kim was arrested February 7th after he voluntarily surrendered to Denver police.

Kim is scheduled to appear in Denver County Court, room 12T, to be advised of the charge against him on February 24, 2003 at 9:00 a.m.

The presumptive range for sentencing for a class four felony is 2 to 6 years in prison.
