CHARGES FILED IN ATTACK ON
DEFENDANT
Denver
District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. has filed formal charges in
connection with an assault on a defendant and on a deputy
sheriff last week. It occurred on March 27, 2002 at the Denver
County Jail facility on Smith Road.
Anthony Lane
(DOB 10-12-81) is charged with second-degree assault
(F4), second-degree assault on a peace officer (F4), and
possession of contraband (F4).
The
defendant, Gerald Lewis (DOB: 11-11-67), was at the Denver
County Jail getting ready to be taken to court for a preliminary
hearing when he was assaulted with a homemade knife. Lewis was
taken to Denver Health Medical Center for treatment of his
injuries, and has returned to the Denver County Jail. His
preliminary hearing is rescheduled for 8:30 a.m., April 10,
2002, in Denver County Court, room 472W. A Denver Sheriff’s
Deputy was also spit on during the investigation of the
incident.
Lane was
already facing multiple felony charges including aggravated
robbery, kidnapping, and assault on a peace officer. He remains
in custody in the Denver County Jail.
