MAN CHARGED WITH INJURING OFFICER

January 14, 2002

Contact: Lynn Kimbrough, 720-913-9025

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. filed formal charges Friday in connection with an assault on a police officer that occurred January 8, 2002.

David Hager (DOB: 2-4-67) is charged with second degree assault on a peace officer (F4) and vehicular eluding with injury (F4).

Denver Police Officer John Falco (DOB: 10-01-71) was injured while on duty making a traffic stop along Speer Boulevard near the Pepsi Center. The charges allege that Hager ignored the officer's request to pull over and instead assaulted the officer by hitting him with the vehicle. Hager fled the scene but was arrested a short time later.

The presumptive range for sentencing on a class 4 felony is 2 to 6 years in prison. Hager is scheduled to appear in Denver County Court on January 15, 2002 at 9:00 a.m. to be formally advised of the charges against him. He remains in custody in the Denver County Jail. Bond was set at $50,000.

*The filing of a criminal charge is merely a formal accusation that an individual(s) committed a crime(s) under Colorado laws. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. See Colo. RPC 3.6
