WOMAN SENTENCED IN CHILD ABUSE CASE

32-year-old Cecelia Martinez was sentenced in Denver District Court today in connection with a child abuse case involving her son.  Martinez was sentenced to 6 years of probation, and she will be required to successfully complete an intensive in-patient program at The Haven, a residential drug and alcohol treatment program for women operated by Community Corrections.  She may face additional conditions as part of her probation when she appears before the Court for a review in June.

Martinez pleaded guilty last September to one count of child abuse.  Her son, who was 7, was pushed or dropped from a third-floor window on April 21, 2002.
