WOMAN SENTENCED IN CHILD ABUSE/ANIMAL CRUELTY CASE

50-year-old Mary Flanagan (DOB:07-27-52) was sentenced today in Denver County Court in connection with her earlier guilty plea to child abuse and animal cruelty charges.

Flanagan was given a one-year deferred judgment on the child abuse count and was sentenced to two years of probation for the animal cruelty count. The conditions of probation include offense specific treatment, parenting classes, psychotherapy, and no pets during probation. The judge also ordered periodic home visits to ensure compliance.

Flanagan was charged with misdemeanor child abuse and cruelty to animals in February 2003 after officials found her and a 13-year-old daughter living in a home filled with trash, dead animals, and other filth.  She pleaded guilty to the charges in May.

Denver County Court Judge Doris Burd ordered Flanagan to return on July 25, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. for a review.
