CHARGES FILED IN VEHICULAR HOMICIDE CASE

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. has filed formal charges in connection with a fatal traffic accident that occurred last weekend.  Two people were killed in a collision at Alameda Avenue and Zuni Street early Sunday morning, March 24, 2002.

Nneka McPhee (DOB 9-22-82) is charged with two counts of vehicular homicide – DUI  (F3) and vehicular homicide – reckless (F4).

The victims, Makeda K. Griffo (DOB 6-10-82) and Warren Cox (DOB 6-10-68), were passengers in a vehicle that swerved out of control and crossed in front of an on-coming vehicle on Alameda Avenue at Zuni Street.  The charges allege that McPhee was driving.  The driver of the other vehicle, Jacobo Marquez-Morena (DOB: 10-19-79) was charged with driving while ability impaired and no proof of insurance.

McPhee remains in custody at the Denver County Jail.  Bond has been set at $25,000.  Her next court appearance is tentatively scheduled for Monday, April 1, 2002 at 8:30 a.m. in Denver County Court, room 12T, to be formally advised of the charges.
