ATTEMPTED MURDER CHARGES FILED

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. has filed formal charges in connection with an incident last weekend in which a 7-year-old child was injured after landing on the ground below a third-story window.

Cecilia Martinez (DOB 8-16-70) is charged with attempted first-degree murder (F2) and second-degree assault on an at-risk youth (F3).

The charges allege that on April 21, 2002, Martinez dropped her 7-year-old son from their apartment window.  The child was taken to Children’s Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Martinez remains in custody at the Denver County Jail.  Bond was set at $100,000.  Her next court appearance is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, May 1, 2002 at 8:30 a.m. in Denver County Court, room 12T, to be formally advised of the charge.
