Former television
executive Scott McDonald surrendered to authorities today in
connection with a new felony theft charge. McDonald was
sentenced in December 2001 after pleading guilty to securities
fraud and is currently serving a 12-year sentence in Community
Corrections.
In connection with
the new case, McDonald (DOB: 10-30-72) is charged with one count
of theft of more than $15,000 (F3).
The new charge
alleges that in May 2001 McDonald "borrowed" $75,000 from an
out-of-state victim with the representation that it would be
invested in a Krispy Kreme franchise, secured by stock. The
money was never invested as represented nor was it secured or
repaid.
McDonald
surrendered today and was released on bond. His next court
appearance is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. March 12, 2002 in Denver
County Court, room 12T, to be formally advised of the charge
against him.
The presumptive range for sentencing on a
class 3 felony is 4 to 12 years in prison.
*The filing of a criminal charge is merely
a formal accusation that an individual(s) committed a crime(s)
under Colorado laws. A defendant is presumed innocent until
and unless proven guilty. See Colo. RPC 3.6
