DNA MATCH LEADS TO SEXUAL ASSAULT CHARGES

26-year-old Joseph Pinkard (DOB: 1-13-76) has been formally charged with two counts of sexual assault (F3 and F-4), and one count of first-degree burglary (F3) in connection with a sexual assault that occurred in September 2001.

The victim, who was 23 at the time, reported to police that she had been sexually assaulted by a man she had met at a dance club.  The investigation stalled without any suspect information, but a DNA sample was recovered and submitted to a state database.  The Denver Police Department received word in January that a match had been found, and on March 18, 2003 an arrest warrant was issued for Pinkard.  He was located at the Arapahoe County Jail following his arrest on a warrant from Aurora on April 3, 2003.  He is scheduled to appear in Denver County Court, room 12T, on April 22, 2003 at 9:00 a.m. to be advised of the charges.
