ALLEGED JEWELRY THEFT RING CHARGED

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. filed formal charges today against four members of an alleged jewelry theft ring.

Oscar Morales-Flores (DOB: 8-16-74), Lissi Pizarro (DOB: 12-4-76), Luis Rendon-Rivera (DOB: 6-15-79) and Demetrio Rubio-Chavalier (DOB: 8-3-76) have each been charged with attempted aggravated robbery (F4) and conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery (F4).

On August 5, 2003, after receiving a tip from an FBI agent that a group of people from Texas was planning to rob a jewelry courier in Denver, Denver Police and the FBI set up surveillance. They followed a suspect vehicle to the 16th Street Mall, where a courier was observed leaving a jewelry store. The suspects appeared to be preparing to rob him when police stopped them and took them into custody.

All four remain in the Denver County Jail on $50,000 bond. They are scheduled to appear in Denver County Court, room 12T, on Wednesday, August 13, 2003 at 9 a.m. to be advised of the charges.
