CHILD KIDNAPPER GUILTY ON ALL COUNTS

A Denver jury has convicted Erick Salazar-Rivasplata on all counts today in his kidnapping and sexual assault trial.

Salazar-Rivasplata (DOB: 9-7-76) was found guilty of two counts of kidnapping (F2) and two counts of sexual assault on a child (F3).

He was accused in two separate cases in which he kidnapped and sexually assaulted a 7-year-old girl on her way to school in the fall of 2000, and kidnapped and sexually assaulted another 7-year-old girl in January 2001, also on her way to school.  Salazar-Rivasplata had pleaded guilty earlier, but was allowed to withdraw his guilty plea last year, forcing a trial.  The trial spanned two weeks, during which both victims, now 9 and 10 years old, testified.

Sentencing is scheduled for September 12, 2003, at 8:30 a.m. in Denver District Court, Division 13.  He faces an indeterminate 16 years to life prison sentence.
