CHILD KIDNAPPER SENTENCED

A man convicted of kidnapping and sexually assaulting two first-grade girls in separate attacks more than two years ago was sentenced to prison today.

Erick Salazar-Rivasplata (DOB: 9-7-76) was given 60 years-to-life in prison by Denver District Court Judge Morris Hoffman.

Salazar-Rivasplata was convicted earlier this summer by a Denver jury of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 6-year-old girl and a 7-year-old girl in November 2000 and January 2001.  The victims, who both testified at his trial, were called “courageous” by the judge.

Under Colorado’s sentencing statutes Salazar-Rivasplata must serve at least a 60-year prison term in the Department of Corrections; after that his release will be determined by the parole board.
