SECOND INDICTMENT HANDED DOWN IN MULTIPLE MURDER

A Denver Grand Jury has returned an 11-count indictment against the second defendant in the murders of four people last August.

Michael Sandoval (DOB: 8-23-79) is charged by indictment with four counts of first-degree felony murder (F1), one count each of attempted first-degree murder (F2) and first-degree assault (F3), two counts of aggravated robbery (F3), and one count each of attempted robbery (F5), conspiracy to commit robbery (F5), and crime of violence.

Sandoval had been charged earlier through the Complaint and Information process with six charges: four counts of first-degree murder, attempted aggravated robbery and conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery.

The investigation into the murders of Rose Amador, Blanca Dueñas-Balbuena, Sally Mendoza and Bob Pacheco has continued as a Grand Jury investigation.  The charges pending in County Court will be dismissed later this week and Sandoval will be advised of the new charges when he appears in Denver District Courtroom 8 on Friday, December 19, 2003 at 8:30 a.m.

Sandoval's father and co-defendant, Edward Herrera, is scheduled for his next court date on January 16, 2004 for a motions hearing.
