MAN CHARGED WITH DIA FIREARMS VIOLATION

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. filed a formal charge today against a man accused of taking a bag with two loaded firearms into Denver International Airport.

Lyle Scanlon (DOB: 12-8-52) is charged with unlawfully carrying firearms in a facility of public transportation (F6). The charge alleges that on July 9, 2003, Transportation Security Administration personnel detected two guns in a bag that was being screened. Scanlon identified the bag as his and was arrested. The guns, a Taurus 9mm semi-automatic and a Raven .25 semi-automatic, were confiscated and placed with the Denver Police Department Property Bureau.

Scanlon has been released from the Denver County Jail on $5,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Denver County Court, room 12T, on July 24, 2003 at 9 a.m. to be advised of the charge.
