CHARGES FILED AGAINST WOMAN IN TASER INCIDENT

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. has formally charged a woman who shot at police officers earlier this week and was taken into custody after being shot with a Taser.

Suzette Spanhel (DOB: 4-26-55) has been charged with first-degree assault on a peace officer (F3) and failure to leave (M1).

Denver police responded to 42nd and Decatur on Monday, October 27, 2003 on a report of a suicidal party.  A woman inside a home who was armed with a gun was threatening to harm herself and police officers.  The charges allege that she fired at officers and refused to come out of the home.  She was taken into custody after police successfully deployed a Taser and forced open the front door.

Spanhel will appear in Denver County Court on Monday, November 3, 2003 at 9:00 a.m. to be advised of the charges.  She remains in jail.  Her bond has been set at $50,000.
