MAN CHARGED IN ATTEMPT MURDER

 

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. filed formal charges today against a man accused of throwing a woman from a 6th floor balcony on Monday, May 6, 2002.

 

Charles Stewart (DOB: 4-19-60) is charged with attempt first-degree murder (F2) and first-degree assault (F3). 

 

The victim, a 44-year-old woman, was in her 6th floor apartment when an argument erupted and she was allegedly thrown from the balcony.  The victim landed on a car below, smashing through the rear windshield.  She was taken to the hospital to be treated for her injuries.

 

Stewart remains in custody in the Denver County Jail.  His bond has been set at $200,000.  He is scheduled to appear in Denver County Court, room 12T, on Tuesday, May 14, 2002 at 8:30 to be formally advised of the charges.

 

The presumptive range for sentencing on a class 2 felony is 8 to 24 years in prison and on a class 3 felony the range is up to 12 years in prison.
