MAN FOUND GUILTY IN ATTEMPTED MURDER CASE

A man charged with attempted murder for throwing a woman from a 6th floor balcony last May has been found guilty by a Denver jury.

Charles Stewart (DOB: 4-19-60) was convicted of attempted second-degree murder (F3) and first-degree assault (F3).  The jury began deliberations on Friday about 12:30 p.m., continued deliberations this morning and returned with a verdict about 10:00 a.m.

Stewart and the victim, a 44-year-old woman he had been dating, got into an argument on May 6, 2002.  Stewart threw the woman from the balcony and she landed on a car below, smashing through the rear window.

Stewart will be sentenced on May 5, 2003, almost a year to the day of the attempted murder.  He faces from 10 to 32 years in prison.
