CHARGES FILED IN CARJACKING

 

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. formally charged two men today in connection with a carjacking that occurred last Friday, May 23, 2003 near 14th Avenue and St. Paul Street. 

 

Drew Lucero (DOB: 6-10-84) is charged with aggravated robbery (F3), conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery (F4), vehicular eluding (F5), and reckless driving (M).*

Robert Olivas (DOB: 8-17-83) is charged with aggravated robbery (F3) and conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery (F4).*

 

 

MAN CHARGED IN VEHICULAR HOMICIDE

 

A fatal crash near I-70 and Peoria last Friday has resulted in charges against the driver.

 

Stephen Stauffer (DOB: 1-1-80) is charged with vehicular homicide (F3), DUI (M), DUI-per se (M), and careless driving (TO).*

 

The charges allege that Stauffer and a passenger, Eric Byberg (DOB: 12-26-78) were eastbound on I-70 at Peoria Street at about 2:20 a.m. on Friday, May 23, 2003, when Stauffer drove off the road, rolling the ’97 Dodge Intrepid he was driving.  Byberg later died from injuries sustained in the crash.

 

 

CHARGES FILED IN WEEKEND STABBING

 

Charges were filed today against a man accused of stabbing two people standing at a bus stop at Colfax and York last Friday afternoon.

 

Leonard Velasquez (DOB: 4-12-64) is charged with attempted first-degree murder (F2), first-degree assault (F3), and second-degree assault (F4).*

*Each defendant remains in the Denver County Jail at this time and will appear for advisement on Monday, June 2, 2003 in Denver County Court, room 12T, at 9 a.m.
