FOSTER MOM CHARGED

Denver District Attorney Bill Ritter, Jr. filed a formal charge today in the case of a teenage girl who was found tied in a closet last month.

Yolanda Royal (DOB: 7-17-65), who had foster care of the girl, has been charged with child abuse (M2). On June 11, 2003, the 15-year-old developmentally disabled girl was found bound in a closet by a social worker who was conducting a scheduled visit.

Royal was issued a Criminal Summons and Complaint earlier this week. She has been summoned to appear in Denver County Court, room 11S, on August 11, 2003 at 8 a.m. to be arraigned on the charge.

(There is no mug shot in this case because the defendant was served with a Criminal Summons and Complaint.)

*The filing of a criminal charge is merely a formal accusation that an individual(s) committed a crime(s) under Colorado laws.  A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.  See Colo. RPC 3.6
