In order for any drug to be marketed in the United States, the Food and Drug Administration must do extensive studies to determine the benefits and risks of medication; none of which have been done on the herbs contained in Green Hornet or other forms of herbal ecstasy. This means that no authority oversees the manufacturing of these products or the contents put in them. As we have seen with Green Hornet, the label does not always accurately reflect the contents of the product. These products are unsafe, unregulated, and have unpredictable side effects when used as a means to get "high."
As stated above, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not monitor “herbal” substances as the law does not consider these substances a “food,” or a “drug.” The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and other federal, state, and local law enforcement do not monitor these substances, either, as they have not, as of yet, been labeled as “controlled substances.” Since these substances are not regulated, there are no quality and/or quantity controls or testing placed on the contents of these substances that are ingested into the human body. No studies have been conducted in animals or humans which provide results as to whether or not these substances are dangerous when consumed.
