Although herbal supplements are considered legal, they are not considered save and pose a potential threat to public health, especially when marketed for the purpose of getting "high." One should be wary of such products and not take any herbal supplement unless directed by a physician.
It is important to understand that herbs are merely drugs (chemicals) found in plants that have not been isolated or studied. Many prescription drugs that are used to treat disease, including morphine and many others, are derived from plants. These were once considered “herbs” that were chopped up and eaten or placed on the skin for effects. As these agents became better known to scientists, the active chemical in these plants was isolated and put into pill or injectable form, and developed into the drugs we use today. Many herbal ecstasy products may contain stimulants, similar to amphetamine or cocaine. Some of these herbs may in fact be harmful or even cause cancer in "recommended" doses.
