Denver Jury Convicts Remi Cordova of First-Degree Murder
DENVER— Denver District Attorney Beth McCann today announced that a jury has convicted Remi Cordova of first-degree murder and first-degree attempted murder.
On February 20, 2021, Cordova, who was 14 at the time, shot and killed 32 year-old Pamela Cabriales after a minor fender bender at Colfax Avenue and I-25. The attempted murder conviction relates to the driver of the car that was stopped immediately behind Ms. Cabriales’s car. Fortunately, the driver of that car was uninjured in the shooting.
Cordova was charged and tried as an adult after being transferred from Juvenile Court to District Court due to the severity of the crime.
Cordova will be sentenced on December 12. Because he was a juvenile at the time of the murder, he faces a maximum of life in prison with the possibility of parole after 40 years.
“I am very grateful to the jury for returning this just verdict, which I hope will provide some comfort and a sense of justice to everyone who knew and loved Pamela Cabriales. This was an entirely senseless and cold-blooded murder, for which Remi Cordova is now being held accountable,” said DA McCann. “I want to thank the prosecutors, investigators and victim advocates in my office, as well as the detectives with the Denver Police Department, whose outstanding work resulted in today’s verdict.”
