Domestic Violence Incident Results in Homicide (Maw)

DENVER—Prosecutors with the Denver District Attorney’s Office today charged Erik Maw (age 49) with the murder of 44-year old Sirena Duran-Maw. On May 31, 2019, a call to 911 reported that a person was not breathing in Denver’s City Park West neighborhood.

Denver Police officers arrived to assist the responding paramedics and learned from the paramedics that the female victim had visible signs of trauma including possible strangulation marks on her neck. Maw was contacted at the scene, taken to Denver Police Headquarters and arrested. A doctor with the Denver Health Medical Center pronounced Duran-Maw deceased that same day and this afternoon, the Office of the Medical Examiner determined that blunt force injuries and manual strangulation were the cause of her death.

This case, 19CR04037, was filed today in Denver District Court and no additional scheduling information is yet available.
