DRIVER CHARGED IN HIT AND RUN DEATH OF PEDESTRIAN

Denver District Attorney Beth McCann has formally charged a man in connection with the hit and run death of a pedestrian.

Isaac Paz (dob: 06-25-1995) is charged with one count of leaving the scene of an accident-death (F3), one count of compulsory insurance (T1), and one count of no operators license (T2).  Paz was arrested on May 28 and the charges were filed on May 31, 2018.

The charges allege that in the early morning of May 25, 2018, the defendant driver struck a pedestrian lying in the street, 59-year-old Victor Barela, at W. Evans Avenue and S. Bryant Street, then failed to stop to check for injuries or notify police. The victim was taken to a hospital but died from his injuries.

The defendant is scheduled to appear on June 13 at 8:00 a.m. in courtroom 2300 for 2^nd advisement.
