Lu Reh Convicted of First-Degree Murder
DENVER — Denver District Attorney John Walsh has announced that a Denver jury today convicted Lu Reh of first-degree murder and multiple counts of attempted murder.
Reh and three other defendants were charged with shooting and killing 42 year-old Ma Kaing in July of 2022 in the 13-hundred block of Xenia Street in east Denver. Reh faces life in prison without the possibility of parole when he’s sentenced on May 2. Two of the other defendants had previously pleaded guilty to second degree murder. The fourth defendant is scheduled for trial in July.
“Ma Kaing was an important and beloved member of her community, and her murder was an unspeakable tragedy. With this verdict, Lu Reh will now pay a heavy price for his senseless actions, which have caused so much harm. I want to acknowledge and thank the entire investigation and prosecution team, including the prosecutors, investigators and victim advocates in my office, as well as the homicide detectives with the Denver Police Department. Their hard work on the case led to this successful resolution and, I hope, will provide a measure of comfort and a sense of justice to all those who knew and loved Ma Kaing,” said DA Walsh.
The prosecution team was led by Senior Deputy District Attorney Anthony Santos and Associate Deputy District Attorney Kelsey Tipps.
