Prison Sentences for January Vehicle Death (Mazzetta, Gutierrez-Flores)
PRISON SENTENCES IMPOSED FOR JANUARY VEHICLE DEATH
Two people charged in connection with a January vehicular collision resulting in a man’s death have been sentenced to prison.
Kylie Mazzetta (dob: 10-01-1988) pleaded guilty in October to vehicular homicide-reckless driving (F4) and was sentenced yesterday to three years in prison plus three years mandatory parole. She was originally charged with one count of vehicular homicide-dui (F3) and one count of vehicular assault (F4).
Fred Junior Gutierrez-Flores (dob: 06-18-1994) pleaded guilty in August to leaving the scene of an accident-serious bodily injury (F4) and was sentenced in October to four years in prison plus three years mandatory parole. He was originally charged with manslaughter (F4) and leaving the scene of an accident-death (F3).
On January 22, 2017, Kylie Mazzetta rear-ended a Mazda sedan, driven by 17-year-old Manuel Alejandro Castillo, who was stopped on the road on West Hampden near Sheridan Boulevard because two other vehicles in front of him were stopped and allegedly preparing to street race. The impact pushed Mr. Castillo’s Mazda into one of the vehicles, driven by Fred Gutierrez-Flores. The impact caused serious injuries to Mr. Castillo, resulting in his death.
