ADDITIONAL CHARGES FILED IN VEHICULAR DEATHS
Denver District Attorney Beth McCann has formally filed new charges against a man in the deaths of two people and injury of others in connection with a car crash at I-70 and I-225 in February.
Ernie Crawley (dob: 02-16-1979) is charged with two counts of murder in the first degree-extreme indifference (F1), two counts of assault in the first degree (F3), two counts of vehicular homicide-DUI (F3), two counts of vehicular homicide-reckless (F4), four counts of vehicular assault (F4), and one count of DUI (M). He was originally charged in February with two counts of motor vehicle homicide-DUI (F3) and other charges. The new charges were direct filed in District Court on May 22, but the original case was dismissed by motion of the DA’s Office on June 4 in order to proceed with the new case and charges.
The charges allege that in the early morning hours of February 18 Crawley struck another vehicle at eastbound I-70 and southbound I-225. Two passengers in the vehicle that was struck, 24-year-old Brandi Wilson and 21-year-old Sean Moler, were killed in the collision and the driver of the vehicle was injured. A passenger in the vehicle driven by Crawley was also injured. Upon contact by the police, Crawley exhibited slurred speech, his breath had a strong alcoholic odor, and his eyes were bloodshot and watery. Police investigation determined Crawley to be the at-fault driver causing the fatal crash.
The defendant is scheduled to appear on July 27, 2018, at 8:30 a.m. in District courtroom 5D for preliminary hearing.
