Jury Finds Oscar Villegas-Ortega Guilty of Murder – Extreme Indifference

DENVER—Almost two years after prosecutors with the Denver DA’s Office accused Oscar Villegas-Ortega (age 23) of murdering then 30-year-old Fausto Marquez, a Denver jury late Thursday found Villegas-Ortega guilty.

The jury deliberated for approximately one day before agreeing with prosecutors that Villegas-Ortega was responsible for the June 27, 2020, shooting death of Mr. Marquez. That night, law enforcement officers and paramedics responded to a chaotic scene and found several people injured in a parking lot at 3600 Park Avenue West.

Villegas-Ortega is guilty of committing murder in the first degree with extreme indifference, manslaughter and first degree assault. He will be sentenced on July 22, 2022, at 1:30 in courtroom 4H.  This is Denver District Court case number 20CR03893.
