RTD “Busjacking” Defendant Pleads Guilty (Garcia)
DENVER—Solomon Garcia (age 37) pleaded guilty on October 24, 2019, to aggravated robbery (F3). The Denver District Attorney announced in August that Garcia was charged with stealing a RTD bus on August 26, 2019, and then going on a 20-minute crime spree.
Garcia first stopped a RTD bus at the Southbound North Federal Bus Stop #F, stole it and crashed the bus at West 6th Avenue Frontage Road and North Lowell Blvd. He then exited the bus and unsuccessfully attempted to steal car keys from a nearby homeowner in order to use the homeowners’ car to avoid capture. Garcia next carjacked and stole another car that was headed Westbound on the 6th Avenue Frontage Road and got into a second traffic collision. Denver Police officers ultimately arrested Garcia without incident at North Sheridan Blvd. and West 1st Avenue.
The case number is 19CR06472 will go to sentencing on December 12, 2019. Garcia faces a sentencing range of four to 10 years in the Department of Corrections.
